Welcome to Irreverence in a ComputerI coded this HTML "manually"You may wish to know that in 1999 I moved to LA, struggled to have high paying good jobs and so while working paying jobs I taught myself to do web design and development. I wrote a lot of HTML, javascript and then CSS, and eventually asp and php and all that, in a text editor and uploaded it via ftp, ssh and all those old school ways. yeah i did a lot of cgi-bin serving. This is a cool paragraph with a special style. Now on to the concept of irreverence in a computer.I will start with a song. This morning, october 11, 2026, i sang a little idea of a tune into my voice memo appHere are the lyrics, well, i modified them by reversing the words of one of the choruses after i transcribed what i sang
[Verse 1]
What is irreverence to a computer
How can you be irreverent
When all you do is compute
What is irreverence to a computer
When all you do is step one two two three four
We turn to two, we turn to three
If you're not responsible for your mistakes
What is the possibility for irreverence
If you can't choose to do otherwise
Then what hope is there for irreverence
When you count one by one, two by two, three by three, four by four
Until there are no more
What room is left for irreverence
I imagine various AI agents and Russell-Devs will take it somewhere from here. |
| WHAT'S NEW? | |
|---|---|
| 10/19/2026 | identity / hostile edition: a randomized perception study dragged through the print shop, the photocopier and the rave. Sixty-four posters, two statements, no machine that can read your mind. Written with Codex, an OpenAI language model. |
| 10/13/2026 | The mathematics has taken an irreverent turn. Full proofs, four local mathematical instruments, latent fibres, repair and the cost of composition. Authored with Codex, an OpenAI language model. |
| 10/13/2026 | underprint: marks that rewrite equivalence, punctuation and the rules for reading marks. The notation, if you want to look underneath. Written with Codex, an OpenAI language model. |
| 10/11/2026 | otherwise is open. The song asks you to define irreverence, predicts what you will do, and does otherwise when it can. |
| 10/11/2026 | The HOWTO for THE REVERENT, for those who read the LEGO instructions first. |
| 10/11/2026 | The voice memo, every Suno recording and all eleven stems, whole, to remix. |
| 10/11/2026 | This page was regressed to HTML 3.2. It is better now. |
| 10/11/2026 | This page was coded "manually". Then a machine coded the rest of it, pretending it was 1996. |

PLAY otherwise · otherwise with the manual beside it (FRAMES!) Touch anything to begin. Then answer, refuse, roll the die, spin the bottle, scribble, or wait. |
| PERFORMANCE | WHAT HAPPENS | BARS |
|---|---|---|
| NOBODY HOME | No moves. The question repeats, and on every second time round rule 30 decides. Three times it points at you and nothing happens; the fourth time, about 74 seconds in, it defines irreverence. | 4 |
| THE REVERENT PERFORMANCE | Refuses everything and never defines irreverence. The machine reads every move and can do nothing about it. | 204 |
| IRREVERENCE MEANS NOTHING | Defines irreverence, then redefines it as p => p. | 204 |
| THE FRANKFURT CASE | Stops at line 8: three answers, one code. Choose. | 36 |
| THE PREDICTABLE ONE | Always the first answer. When it tries to end the song, the machine predicted it, and continues. | 236 |
| ROBOT MODE | The machine plays the player, all the way, in its own voice. | 204 |
| THE DIE DECIDES | one, two, two, three, again and again. | 596 |
| FATE | Rule 30 decides everything. It goes around more than once. | 754 |
| SCRIBBLED | Every third answer is a drawing that rewrites the line from its own words. | 240 |
| TILL IT BURNS | Burns three times. A new being with a new seed. | 692 |
| SKIP TO THE END (AGENT CLOCK) | Arrives at the last question at once: end it, continue, or till it burns. | 196 |
