the workshop

A mark becomes a note. A note changes a memory. Memory changes the next mark.

hands / keys

Drag anywhere. Horizontal motion changes register; vertical motion changes tension. Each touch leaves a delayed expression. Space plays or pauses. M mutes, B dims the field, R begins again. 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 change the composition. Yield recovers after a small gesture; no large movements are needed. Arrow keys make marks.

borrow a sense

Optional, local inputs. A whistle adds pitch and breath; a camera adds motion and color. Raw audio and video stay here, without recording or transmission.

another relation

Pair two pages by exchanging codes. Create an offer here, paste it into the other page, and return its answer. Codes contain connection and network metadata; exchange them only with your intended peer. No signaling service or relay is contacted. This first pairing is best on the same network; some network boundaries will prevent it.

Share derived controls with this peer

Only normalized controls are shared, after you opt in. Incoming controls become marks in your own score. Peer clocks remain independent.

a score inside a score

Scores are finite expression trees with stable IDs and typed events. A composition can contain other compositions. Rewrite rules map symbols into notes and marks; clocks and delays make feedback possible without an instantaneous loop.

what is doing the work

The deterministic Rust kernel runs as actual WebAssembly in a worker. It evaluates the bounded score, transforms input, and produces note and mark events. JavaScript handles permissions, pairing, the canvas, and scheduling; an AudioWorklet synthesizes sound away from the UI thread.

GitHub Pages serves this standalone instrument. It does not run a server. The same kernel also has a native CLI and a local server adapter.

The synthesis and imagery are original. The six material cuts come from creator-provided music made in Suno Studio. Sound provenance ↗. No external font, analytics, media, or third-party runtime is loaded. Pairing has no STUN or TURN server by default.

Performance limits are explicit: bounded score size, fuel, events, delayed events, audio voices, and peer packets. Endless composition means reusable relations within those limits.

material / provenance

These short cuts are creator-provided excerpts from music made in Suno Studio. They are separate from the MIT software license. Read sound provenance ↗.

No material cuts in this score.

If a cut cannot load, return to the collection to retry it or exclude it. Only catalog asset IDs travel with a peer score; media stays local.

care / access

Sound starts quietly. Mute leaves visual participation active. Reduced motion uses a calmer field. Blackout softens the visual surface. Use headphones or a comfortable speaker volume.
