A rectangle that is not a square has four symmetries: leave it, flip it across, flip it over, turn it half around. ELGNAH is HANGLE seen through them. It opens flipped across, so it begins at the end.

Flip across and time runs the other way. The song is read from its end, its spoken twins and taps play backward, and left trades with right. The spectrum survives; the words do not. Losing replaces finding, and your hand gathers what it used to scatter.

Flip over and every frequency f becomes 4186 − f, mirrored about C7. The rhythm survives; the harmony does not, except the harmonics of C, which turn into one another because 4186 Hz is 64 times C2. The lower third becomes the first, and half a thought becomes the other half.

Turn half around and both happen. A half turn keeps handedness, so every thought keeps its tilt. A quarter turn is not a symmetry of a wide frame, and time would have to become pitch: it hangs on its edge and falls back. Two quarter turns make a half turn that works.

Every turn hangs a moment on its edge, where the image is a line: the tape stops, holds its last instant, and is found again from the other end. Words and code are rewritten for you; what is drawn in the water turns with it, so a turned 2 is a 5. Any flip done twice is nothing at all.

The kernel that answers your touches cannot run backward. Asked to step back, it refuses; its taps are reversed afterwards and its memory only grows. The document only grows too: going backward writes erasures. HANGLE said its other half was reflected across the boundary. It was drawn turned half around: only a turn keeps the tilt.
